Washington, DC (June 11, 2012) - BUILDER and CUSTOM HOME this week announced the winners of the 2012 Watermark Awards. Now in its seventh year, the program honors builders, architects, and designers for quality, innovation, and excellence in kitchen and bath design. “Natural Beauties” is the common theme among the 2012 winners, with projects also demonstrating a keen awareness of their surroundings.

“The 2012 Watermark competition saw the most entries in its seven-year history,” said Denise Dersin, BUILDER’s editor in chief. “The increase can be attributed to the essential role that kitchens and baths play in attracting buyers to a home. And what buyers want are natural materials, an open feel, and a seamless connection with outdoor spaces. This year’s winning projects offer all that and more.”

Project of the Year is awarded to Appleton Living in Venice, California in the category of Kitchen in a Custom Home (3,000 to 5,000 sq. ft.). Designed by MINARC and built by Core Construction and Development, Appleton Living blurs the distinction between indoors and outdoors, taking artful advantage of its southern California location. The home also won a grand award for its master bath.
